This week IDG Connect published their study iPad for Business – Survey 2012.

The study has been widely referenced in tech blogs this week. Rather than focusing on its conclusions, I want to talk about on its infographics. Specifically the one shown below:
Even ignoring the many crossed lines, the needless complexity of the layout, the three different ways that percentages are rendered, ask yourself this: Did it communicate anything more than the simple diagram below that created using Excel's Data Bar feature? Naturally we expect Infographics to be eye-catching – but when the insight into the data is lost and the design is a detriment to understanding, then we have to question the intention of the visuals.
