I tend to use the more advanced text formatting settings (Text margins, Character spacing, custom tab stops, etc) in Visio. Switching to Visio 2013 from Visio 2010 gave me a bit of s surprise. I couldn't immediately find these options. Below I'll show you how to get to them in Visio 2013.
Getting to the Text Format UI in Visio 2010
I would right-click on a shape, and then select Format > Text as shown below.

And this would bring up the Text Format dialog shown below.

Now we have a problem, that option in the right-click context menu is simply no longer present.

But, have fear not. We just have to be more diligent and search through the Visio 2013 ribbon. Under the Home tab, just click on the little arrow in the lower right of the text section.

And then the Text Format UI will appear just as before in Visio 2010.
Also, you can click on the arrow in paragraph settings and get to the same place.

By the way, this same method worked in Visio 2010, but of course because I always used the right-click contect menu, I never needed to discover this method. Below is a screenshot showing exactly what it looks like in Visio 2010.

Learn to Use the Format Text UI
While I have your attention, let me recommend that you spend some time learning about the options available in the Format Text dialog. There are a lot of options available and a few tweaks can make your documents look much better. I've provided screenshots of the Visio 2013 Format Text options below.
