An Anecdote on Innovation

A few months ago a coworker and built something (still in progress) in great excitement showed it around to get some feedback. One response struck me: “Who is asking for this? Do you have any numbers to gauge interest?”

My response (paraphrased): Zero. Customers are very unable to articulate a desire for something that they don't know that they don't know could exist.

Big innovation happens in this space: creating concepts/solutions/product that not only didn't exist before but that couldn't have existed before. That's why it's hard, folks :-)
